Lawrence Okolie has revealed he jumped at the opportunity to challenge Yves Ngabu to its European cruiserweight title.
Okolie will take on the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor undercard at The O2 on October 26 on Ngabu, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
As joining the pro ranks in 2017 the Hackney fighter, who also has won 13 of his struggles and picked up the British and Commonwealth titles, did not hesitate when given the chance.
“I just feel that when you’re young and competent [to battle ] then you ought to do,” explained Okolie through Monday’s press conference.
“This is going to be the next champion I have boxed. I’ve defeated the Commonwealth winner, I have beaten the winner and I’m excited about beating the winner.
“He has got a terrific team. I have heard a great deal of interviews , I enjoy the way he talks, very confidently.
“I am just excited about putting myself through it in training camp and going to work.
“It’s going to be very, very good, very exciting. He’s got a kind of style that is contrary to mine.
“He is a come-forward fighter but he also knows how to box. He has good power punching and several other stuff like this, so there’s definitely going to be a whole lot of things I’m going to need to deal with on the night, but I can cope with all these professionally.”
Ngabu (20-0, KOs 14) will be battling for the very first time outside his native Belgium but the 30-year-old is confident of successfully defending his title for the third time.
“He [Okolie] is a fantastic fighter. He is tall, he is strong and everything until today he did great, but I believe I can beat him and that I think I am more powerful than him and we’ll watch on October 26,” explained Ngabu.
